Surprise Breakfast
Surprise Breakfast
Here's a lighter story. Sorry about the last post being so heavy. Yesterday morning, mom brought up several pieces of furniture. Both mom and dad have been working hard on furniture for the kids' rooms. Mom refinished a beautiful oak dresser with and attached ornate mirror. (An absolute steal at a garage sale) This will go in the nursery. (Our Vietnamese sweeties will share the nursery). I bought an antique youth bed at a sale years ago for $17. It needed some work, rails & slats made and refinished. This will go in the nursery for the toddler boy. I bought a cute little dresser at an auction years ago for around $30. It is small, like what you'd expect in a little girls room. It also has a tri-fold mirror attached to it. Mom bought a cute little dresser with three drawers at her uncles auction this summer. It will probably double as a nightstand. Both of these pieces will go in Ellayna's room. Mom sanded & painted both of these dressers. I also bought an antique youth bed for Ellayna to use. She has to leave the crib for the next baby! Luckily, this bed only needs slats made. We also have a dresser in Amish country that mom bought. A simple high oak dresser with several drawers that needs to be refinished, too. The dresser is still in the Amish. So, we'll be making a trip down soon. This will be the second dresser in the nursery. Wyatt's furniture is set. We'll move his bed and the two dressers that are in the nursery now upstairs to his new room.
My parents did all this work and we greatly appreciate it. For those that don't know us, my parents live very close, about the length of a football field. Matt and I bought the house that I grew up in from my parents (which my parents built when I was 5). We added on 600 sq feet for a great room, laundry room, and walk in closet and then remodeled the kitchen and guest bath. My parents went further back in the woods and built a one story cape cod style house. It is so nice having them close. Since we're on the topic, last year we finished my brother's house. It is 2400 sq feet and was stick built by my husband, dad, and brother in 9 months in the evenings after work and the weekends. My brother lives about 20 minutes away. Yes, this was our life for those months. Hopefully, we're done building for quite awhile.
Back to the story. Mom made several trips bringing up the furniture that was crowding my dad's shop. While we were out lugging everything in the garage, Ellayna seized the opportunity. She recently learned how to open the freezer/ fridge doors. Well, she took it upon herself to take the container of orange sherbet ice cream out of the freezer, and then reach into a drawer for a spoon. The spoon happened to be a very large serving spoon. When I entered the house, she was sitting at her little table with the whole container shoveling ice cream in with the enormous spoon, guilt written all over her face. We had to laugh. It was too funny. Ice cream for breakfast anyone?
